Well, here we are. The 2014 NHL Olympic Break. With more than half of the regular season completed, the Detroit Red Wings have experienced an unfamiliar roller coaster of a year. Injuries and disappointing play have led to some painful moments for the team and fans, but along with these lows there have been some incredible highs.  These are the Top 5 Detroit Red Wing moments of the season thus far.

Moment #5: The Wings Draft Anthony Mantha

The Detroit Red Wings organization is known for its incredible scouting ability. Star players like Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg are examples of late draft picks that other teams still hang their heads about and say “How did we miss that talent?” However, Ken Holland plucked a likely future Wings star out of the QMJHL 20th overall in the 2013 NHL Draft. Anthony Mantha is absolutely tearing up the QMJHL, with 47 goals and 97 points in 44 games this season. Last year, he put up 50 goals and 89 points in 67 games. This season, Mantha has a 2.20 PPG average, just below Sidney Crosby’s best PPG average in the Q at 2.47. Although this actually happened before the season started, his superstar potential earns him a spot on this list.
