Gustav Nyquist received the call that he will be replacing an injured Johan Franzen on Team Sweden for the Winter Sochi Olympics.

When Franzen said that he would not be traveling to Sochi for the Olympics, Gustav Nyquist was seen as the possible replacement. Nyquist attended Sweden’s Olympic Training Camp in August, which allowed the coaches to assess his abilities and gauge whether he would be a good contribution to the team in Sochi.

Nyquist is on a blazing hot streak for the Wings by tallying twelve points, eight goals, in his last eight games and has twenty-two points in thirty games this season.

After scoring a hat-trick against the Capitals, he is now tied for third on the Red Wings at thirteen goals with Tomas Tatar, who is heading to the Olympics with Slovakia.

Gustav Nyquist will join: Henrik Zetterberg, Daniel Alfredsson, Niklas Kronwall, Jonathan Ericsson, and Jonas Gustavsson on Team Sweden.

Nyquist beat out Patric Hornqvist and Marcus Johansson for Franzen’s roster spot.

Congratulations, Gustav Nyquist and have a great Olympics!
