No Suspension for Kyle Quincey

In Tuesday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks, Kyle Quincey drove Ryan Getzlaf headfirst into the end boards. Quincey was given a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct with potential supplemental discipline coming today.

According to Ken Holland, Quincey will not be suspended for the hit:

Watch the hit below:

Is this the right call? Quincey is not a repeat offender, and the hit looks more like venting frustration than intent to injure. Getzlaf’s positioning is a little awkward, too, but none of this detracts from how much you flinch watching this video. Seeing hits like this is never fun.

Still, that hit should have never happened. I would not have been surprised had Quincey been given at least a game or two. A more in-depth explanation will come sometime soon on this ruling.

On a related note, Deryk Engelland has been suspended five games for his hit on Justin Abdelkader in Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Abdelkader is feeling much better, but when he will be cleared to play remains up in the air.
