Opportunities | Detroit Red Wings Vs Philadelphia Flyers Game Preview

The Detroit Red Wings are back at Joe Louis Arena to take on the Philadelphia Flyers at 8:00 p.m. EST tonight.

The Red Wings can continue their roll tonight, but it will not be an easy task. The good new is that the Red Wings have been able to produce secondary scoring, which will be heavily relied upon tonight and Howard looks like he is back in form, but they will be without their stars. There are opportunities for Daniel Cleary, Stephen Weiss, and Cory Emmerton tonight and they need to grab on to them in order to prove they can hack it.

The Flyers have won two of their past five games and are struggling, which is a big help for the Datsyuk and Zetterberg-less Red Wings. Despite their struggles recently, Steve Mason has been the real deal in net for the Flyers and the Wings cannot take them lightly tonight.

Projected Line-up

Gustav Nyquist –  Stephen Weiss – Johan Franzen

Justin Abdelkader – Darren Helm – Daniel Alfredsson

Drew Miller – Joakim Andersson – Tomas Tatar

Mikael Samuelsson – Cory Emmerton – Daniel Cleary

Jonathan Ericsson – Niklas Kronwall

Brendan Smith – Kyle Quincey

Jakub Kindl – Brian Lashoff

Jimmy Howard

The Red Wings have a 51-56-21 overall record against the Flyers and boast a 63.1% winning percentage against them at home. The overall record does not include the four game Stanley Cup Finals sweep.

Since 2010, the Red Wings are 3-3-0 against the Flyers. One of the wins came earlier this season at Joe and hopefully they can duplicate their earlier success.

Jonas Gustavsson has been incredible for the Wings in net and is now 7-0-1 on the season, but this is Jimmy Howard‘s team and because of that Gustavsson will be on the bench tonight.

Howard earned a win and a shutout in his last game, against the Islanders, and he will be looking to continue that success tonight against the Flyers. If Howard can continue to play well in net it would reassure a lot of fans who have been selling Howard and buying Gustavsson as of late.

Pavel Datsyuk and Todd Bertuzzi are still out of the line-up despite possibly returning today.

Joining them on the sidelines is Henrik Zetterberg, who was diagnosed with a herniated disc and could be out for at least two weeks.

Cory Emmerton rejoins the line-up and will have a chance to prove his worth tonight.

Without their two best defensive forwards, the defense will have its work cut out, but if anyone can survive the onslaught it would be them.

Prediction: With Datsyuk and now Zetterberg out it will be an uphill battle for the Wings and I do not think they will be able to pull off the win, 2-1 loss.
