The Detroit Red Wings finally play a road game and it is against the New York Islanders tonight at 7:00 p.m. EST.
The Red Wings dropped their seventh straight game at home, their worst losing streak at home since the 1986-87 season. Thankfully the Red Wings are not at home tonight and could break the streak of five straight losses on Long Island. If they are to do that they will need to play a full 60 minutes of hockey and close out the game in the third.
John Tavares, Frans Nielsen, and Kyle Okposo have been on fire for the Islanders, but no one else has produced much for the team (Does that remind you of another team?). Despite the production, the Islanders have not been able to win many games and neither goalie boasts a winning record. The Red Wings need a win and the inept Islanders are just the team to help break the losing streak.
The Red Wings have dropped their last three games to the Islanders and are 8-5-1 since the 2000-01 season.
Jimmy Howard will receive a rest tonight and he deserves it. Howard has been keeping the Red Wings in their past 5 games, but the offense and defense did not help him out enough.
Daniel Cleary re-joined the line up as well on Friday, but was mostly invisible during the game and if the Red Wings had enough room for another forward to join the roster he would probably head back to the press box.
In a game in which Tomas Tatar was supposed to be scratched, he might have been the most noticeable player on the ice. Good things followed Tatar around the ice and because of that he moved from the 4th line up to the 2nd line with Darren Helm and Johan Franzen.
Daniel Alfredsson was a late scratch on Friday due to a groin injury and could not be able to play again tonight.
Luke Glendening has been recalled by the Red Wings in an emergency capacity in-case Daniel Alfredsson cannot go.
Prediction: The road has been much kinder to the Red Wings than home ice and that will continue tonight. 4-0 Red Wings victory.
