Highlights: Win Over Colorado Avalanche And Loss Against Phoenix Coyotes

After a nice win at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Red Wings flew to Denver to take on the undefeated, Patrick Roy led, Colorado Avalanche

Early in the game Niklas Kronwall was violently boarded by Cody McCleod, but since you are probably as tired of watching it as I am, I am not linking the video. If you want to watch the hit you can CLICK HERE or CLICK HERE.

After the 4 on 4 ended, that resulted after McLeod’s 5 minute Major and a Game and Jonathan Ericsson‘s Roughing penalty, Johan Franzen capitalized on the power play to put the Wings up by one.

It was a great set up by Henrik Zetterberg and Franzen did a great job sliding in front of the net unnoticed to score the goal.

That was not the only gorgeous setup of the game though; Daniel Alfredsson once again proves that he is better than Damien Brunner by getting his second three assist night and setting up Pavel Datsyuk for the insurance goal.

Alfredsson was patient with the puck and gave Datsyuk time to set up in the slot, which led to the goal.

The Red Wings continued their two game road trip by flying to the desert to take on the Phoenix Coyotes.

Detroit look incredible in the first period and Pavel Datsyuk started off the scoring with a beautiful wrist shot from the slot.

Henrik Zetterberg knew exactly where to pass this puck to put it on Datsyuk’s stick and it led to a great goal. The Euro Twins are a force to be reckoned with when on the ice together and the new “Two kids and a GOAT line” got off to a fast start.

Even Todd Bertuzzi did his very own impression of Datsyuk by stealing the puck from a Coyote, dekeing past another one, and then putting the puck behind goaltender Mike Smith.

For a man who is 6’3″ and 230 pounds he has some of the softest hands I have ever seen.

The game turned around in the second period though, when Mike Smith feighned an injury after a Pavel Datsyuk shot that hit his stick. Smith fell to the ice grabbing his head and that negated the Brian Lashoff goal. For more information on the dive, our own John Evans wrote an article about it.

For a goalie that already has a reputation of diving, this certainly will not help his credibility and next time, when he really is hurt, he will not receive the call. Stop crying wolf, Mike Smith.

After having their third goal taken away from them, the Red Wings lost focus and allowed the Coyotes back into the game in the second and then the Wings feel apart in the third, allowing 4 goals. Matin Hanzel scored the game winning goal on a breakaway.

Bad coverage by the Red Wings allowed Hanzel to be wide open and I am sure Jimmy Howard will want that goal back.
