Preview: Revenge | Detroit Red Wings at Phoenix Coyotes

The Detroit Red Wings are playing their second and last game of the season against the Phoenix Coyotes tonight at 9:00 p.m. EDT.

The Red Wings do not want a re-showing of what happened last game against the Coyotes and with tonight being their last game against the Coyotes they will put all of their strength into winning. The Wings will have to stay out of the box, draw penalties, and receive solid goaltending to win tonight.

Phoenix and Shane Doan took it to the Red Wings the last time they played each other and will be looking to win the two game series tonight. Mike Smith is healthy, after being hurt in the game against the Red Wings and will be backstopping the Coyotes tonight. Smith is a big goalie, who can get hot in a flash; the best thing the Wings can do is make their first few shots count.

Projected Line-up

Henrik Zetterberg – Pavel Datsyuk – Todd Bertuzzi

Johan Franzen – Stephen Weiss – Justin Abdelkader

Daniel Cleary – Joakim Andersson – Daniel Alfredsson

Drew Miller – Luke Glendening – Mikael Samuelsson

Danny DeKeyser – Jonathan Ericsson

Kyle Quincey – Jakub Kindl

Brian Lashoff  Brendan Smith

Jimmy Howard

Niklas Kronwall will most likely sit tonight’s game out, which means it will be Brendan Smith returning to the line-up on defense.

Whoever is given the spot next to Jonathan Ericsson will have big shoes to fill and that person could be Danny DeKeyser, who logged the most time on ice for the Wings against Colorado.

Jimmy Howard might reclaim his spot in net tonight, but if he is not ready to go Jonas Gustavsson will be called upon again to play in net for his fourth straight game.

Gustavsson has been great in net and even though he gave up two soft goals against the Avalanche, he made some monster saves in the third period to keep the Wings in the lead.

Daniel Alfredsson had three assists for the second time this season and he looks like he is just warming up out there. Alfie could be moved up to play with Datsyuk and Zetterberg tonight.

The Red Wings penalty kill has been solid early on this season, but they are taking too many penalties and it is putting too much pressure on the penalty kill and because of that it cracked against Colorado, giving up two goals.

Jordin Tootoo had another great game against the Avalanche and gives the Red Wings a new dimension to their game. As he continues to play well, I dislike the idea of trading him more and more.

Prediction: The Red Wings lost badly to the Yotes in Detroit so it is only fair that the Wings win tonight in Phoenix. Red Wings victory 2-1.

UPDATE: According to Mlive, Jordin Tootoo will be a healthy scratch tonight and Mikael Samuelsson will take his place. I do not like this move.
