Nick Kypreos was the first person to break the news this morning.
Having an in person meeting with the Department of Player Safety means the incoming suspension will be for more than 5 games. Cody McLeod has a history of dangerous hits and suspensions, which means that the suspension he receives could be for more than 10 games.
Below is the boarding hit by Cody McLeod on Niklas Kronwall
As you can see in the video, McLeod is following Kronwall on the forecheck and is staring at his numbers the entire time. Kronwall does turn back to try and dodge McLeod and that might have affected the outcome of the hit, but at no point did McLeod think about the safety of Kronwall. Because of this, McLeod dangerously slammed Kronwall’s head into the dasher.
Thankfully, Niklas Kronwall and is only day to day with a mild concussion when it could have been a lot worse, but concussions are hard to predict and it could keep him out for a week or a month. Kronwall did travel with the team to Phoenix, which would most likely not happen if he was feeling serious repercussions after the hit.
Brendan Shanahan should throw the book at Cody McLeod for the hit, but the fact that Kronwall is not seriously hurt could mean the suspension could be fewer than 10 games. For a more in depth look at the injury CLICK HERE.
