The Detroit Red Wings are at Joe Louis Area to take on the Philadelphia Flyers at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
Today’s game is the first Breast Cancer Awareness game in October for the Detroit Red Wings and Jimmy Howard will be wearing a special mask and pads during the game.
There is only one way Detroit can go tonight and that is up, they were out hustled, out worked, and lost in the dot against the Coyotes and that cannot happen again. Tonight, the Wings will have to turn the corner or else they will fall behind the eight ball and to keep that from happening Mike Babcock has switched up the line combinations for the game.
Philadelphia has had a rough go to the start of their season as well, going 1-4 in their first five games and are looking to fix that record. They are in the same position as the Red Wings, since they cannot produce a lot of points either. But where the Wings have them is in net, Ray Emery and Steve Mason have not been the upgrade over Ilya Bryzgalov that they had hoped.
Luke Glendening and Jordin Tootoo make their first appearances of the season, Tootoo is coming off of IR and Glendening has been called up from the Griffins.
Cory Emmerton has been sent down to Grand Rapids and needs to regain some confidence because he has not been very good so far this season.
There are a lot of people who will not like this move, but I have always marveled at the way Datsyuk played when Bertuzzi was on his wing; Abdelkdaer was close, but it was not the same.
Daniel Alfredsson will move down to the third line, which could help jump start him because the Red Wings need him to start putting the puck into the net and playing against lesser competition for a short while could get him going.
The defense has been an up and down area for the Red Wings, sometimes they are great and other times they give the puck away too easily. The defense has to start being more consistent and that starts with Brendan Smith.
Prediction: The Red Wings need to pull out a victory tonight and since I will be at the game cheering them on, I expect a victory. 2-1 Red Wings.
UPDATE: Brian Lashoff is in tonight and Brendan Smith is a healthy scratch.
