Preview: Heading Into The Eye Of The Storm | Detroit Red Wings vs Carolina Hurricanes

The Detroit Red Wings traveled to Carolina to face-off against the Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. EDT.

Detroit will be looking to build off of their victory over the Sabres in tonight’s game against the Hurricanes. After watching the way this team played against Buffalo, I now know why Tomas Tatar was a healthy scratch, on a different team he wouldn not be, but the Wings were good enough to make me forget all about Tatar in the press box.

Tonight is Carolina’s season opener and they will be looking to give the home crowd a good reason for coming to support the club. If the Red Wings want to play the spoiler tonight, they will have to give the same effort in today’s game that they did against the Sabres.

Projected Line-up

Forwards

Henrik Zetterberg – Pavel Datsyuk – Justin Abdelkader

Johan Franzen – Stephen Weiss – Daniel Alfredsson

Todd Bertuzzi – Joakim Andersson – Daniel Cleary

Drew Miller – Cory Emmerton – Mikael Samuelsson

Defensemen

Niklas Kronwall – Jonathan Ericsson

Jakub Kindl  Danny DeKeyser

Brendan Smith  Kyle Quincey

Goaltender

Jimmy Howard

Stephen Weiss and Daniel Alfredsson looked very good in their first game with the Red Wings, but both are still looking for their first point and today they could accomplish that.

The Red Wings special teams were on fire during against the Sabres and they killed two 5 on 3′s, but the power play will have to show up against the Hurricanes.

Wednesday I talk about how the Todd Bertuzzi – Joakim Andersson Daniel Cleary  line would either be great or crash and burn and they were fantastic on the ice.

I will be looking Mikael Samuelsson closely in tonight’s game to figure out if last game was a fluke or if he has turned over a new leaf for this season.

The Wings young defense was solid and it was Kyle Quincey who led the way, tonight I will be looking for wither Brendan Smith or Danny DeKeyser to step up.

I never thought I would have to say this to anyone except Dominik Hasek, but Jimmy Howard please stay in your net because that turnover was awful.

Prediction: Tonight’s game will be a bit tougher for the Red Wings, but the breaks that Buffalo received during the last game will not carry over to Carolina. Red Wings victory 5-0.
