Preview: Hockey is Back in Detroit As Wings Take On Sabres

The waiting is over, the time has come, and hockey is back!

The Detroit Red Wings host the Buffalo Sabres in Joe Louis Arena at 8:00 p.m. EDT.

There has been a lot of change over the off-season for the Red Wings; new players. new rules, a move to the Atlantic Division, and joining the Eastern Conference. In Detroit’s first fame we will get our first real taste at how this team will play together and I am sure everyone is hoping it there will not be a repeat of brutal loss they suffered in last years season opener.

The Wings first opponent in the Eastern Conference is the Sabres, who have had a couple changes of their own; Jason Pominville is no longer in Buffalo and Steve Ott is a Co-Captain with Thomas Vanek.

Projected Line-up

Forwards

Henrik Zetterberg – Pavel Datsyuk – Justin Abdelkader

Johan Franzen – Stephen Weiss – Daniel Alfredsson

Todd Bertuzzi – Joakim Andersson – Daniel Cleary

Drew Miller – Cory Emmerton – Mikael Samuelsson

Defensemen

Niklas Kronwall – Jonathan Ericsson

Jakub Kindl  Danny DeKeyser

Brendan Smith  Kyle Quincey

Goaltender

Jimmy Howard

Fans will receive their first look at Stephen Weiss and Daniel Alfredsson in a regular season game.

The Red Wings special teams were on fire during the preseason and there is no reason why that will not continue into the regular season.

Todd Bertuzzi and Daniel Cleary will join Joakim Andersson to make an interesting third line, which will either be great or crash and burn.

Mikael Samuelsson joins the fourth line, but will receive minutes on the second power play as well.

The Wings young defense has another year under its belt and the team will be looking at Jakub Kindl, Brendan Smith, and Danny DeKeyser take another step forward this season.

Drew Miller will be playing against his brother Ryan Miller.

Prediction: The new additions to the Red Wings will make a big difference in tonight’s game and lead the team to a win. Red Wings victory 3-0.
