Goodbye Daniel Cleary

It is official Daniel Cleary will no longer be a Detroit Red Wing and will not be attending the Red Wings’ Training Camp in Traverse City, Michigan.

Cleary signed with the Philadelphia Flyers for 3 years with an average of $2.75M per season and a No Trade Clause.

The Flyers gained a good 3rd line/2nd line tweener, who works harder on the ice than a lot of other players, but giving that kind of money, term, and a NTC is just crazy talk.

There is a reason Ken Holland did not pull the trigger on a deal like that and it is because Cleary is a 34 year-old, who is breaking down physically. There is a reason people call him Daniel “No Knees” Cleary and Lieutenant Dan.

In the end the Flyers gained a good player and the Red Wings will keep looking towards the future in Tomas Tatar and Gustav Nyquist.

Good luck, Cleary and we will look forward to beating you often next season. If you can stay on the ice.
