Kevin Lynch was drafted in the second round of the 2009 Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets and went on to play four years at the University of Michigan.

Before heading to Michigan, Kevin played for the USNTDP Under 18 Team and the U.S. National Under 18 Team. With those teams he showed the ability with the puck as a playmaker and goalscorer.

Kevin and the Blue Jackets were not able to work out a deal and Kevin became a free agent. He was not a free agent for long though, as the Grand Rapids Griffins came calling and signed him to a contract.

He will be the second Michigan captain (alternate) on the Griffins and will join his old Michigan teammate, Luke Glendening.

Lynch had an injury filled career at Michigan and might not have been played in the correct areas because of a gluttony of depth on the team, but that is all in the past now. With the Griffin’s he has a shot to not only prove the Red Wings and other NHL teams that he is a NHLer, but a chance to prove the Blue Jackets wrong.

He will be counted on more to use his size and strength to give the Griffin’s energy and make life difficult on their opponents, while chipping in some secondary scoring. I would not be surprised if Kevin excelled and was given a larger role with the team by the end of the season.

In Grand Rapids he will have a lot of talented players around him and a lot of great coaches at his disposal who will do everything they can to develop and progress his career.

It is a dream come true for a Detroit kid to end up in the Red Wings’ system and that is exactly what happened to Kevin Lynch.

Good luck next season with the Griffins, Kevin.
