The Prospects Tournament is taking place next weekend in Traverse City.
Detroit has never won the tournament since its inception, but this year they have a good chance of finally getting their name on the wall of Centre Ice Area in Traverse City.
The Detroit Red Wings released their roster for the tournament.

The roster has a few players from the Grand Rapids Griffins (Riley Sheahan, Tomas Jurco, and Max Nicastro), a few amateur tryouts (Cam Lanigan, Michal Plutnar, and Barclay Goodrow), and the rest are prospects in the Red Wings system.
Of all the players invited to tryout at the Red Wings Development Camp only Barclay Goodrow was invited to the prospects tournament.
Despite the fact that training camp is only a week after the Prospects Tournament and couches will make most of their decisions then, there are a few players who have a lot to prove before then.
Riley Sheahan is one of those players. He played well in Grand Rapids, but when brought up to the NHL he was physically out matched by his opponents. In the tournament he has to prove that he can physically dominate the younger competition the same way he was dominated in the NHL.
Calle Jarnkrok did not have the best time in he AHL last season, but he was only there for 7 game and was never fully comfortable. His hockey smarts were there, but he was not used to the smaller rink or the faster speed. In the tournament he will have to prove that he is ready for big minutes in the AHL next season.
Jared Coreau was signed to a free agent contract last season after finishing up his last season at Northern Michigan. Coreau had shoulder surgery in the off-season and did not participate in the Developmental Camp meaning that this will be the first close look the Red Wings are able to get at the young goaltender in net.
The Prospect Tournament starts on September 4th and runs until the 9th.
