The Detroit Red Wings have officially finished all of their summer house keeping duties as forward Gustav Nyquist has signed a 2-year extension with the club.
According to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, the deal earns Nyquist $1.9 million over two seasons with a cap hit of $950,000.
Detroit is expecting big things from the second youngest player on their roster this year, as the 23-year-old Nyquist is coming off a strong 2013 playoff performance.
A former Hobey Baker Award finalist for the Maine Black Bears, Nyquist has been a proven point producer at every level. And, the Wings are hoping that their 121st overall pick from the 2008 NHL Draft will make his mark on the big stage as he prepares for his first full season as an NHL regular.
With Nyquist’s signing, Detroit’s attention now shifts to preparations for the upcoming season as training camp is set to begin in just a number of weeks.
Let’s hope there’s a lot more where this came from.
Welcome back Gustav!
