Detroit Red Wings Unlikely To Make Moves Before Training Camp

With Training Camp coming up soon it is looking more and more likely that they will enter training camp with their current roster.

This means that Detroit will be heading to camp with a 25 man roster and once Gustav Nyquist signs they will be a bit over the salary camp.

Mlive’s Ansar Khan talked to Ken Holland about the Detroit Red Wings roster.

“Things are pretty quiet,” Holland said Tuesday. “There’s not much going on.

“At this stage, lots of teams will go to camp feeling their kids will fill holes for them.”

That will force the Red Wings to seek other means to trim up to two players before the start of the season.

“If we have to go to training camp with what we have I feel OK,” Holland said. “There will be more talk in camp. There’s moves to be made to get ourselves cap compliant.”

Ken Holland knows he will have to make some moves to make the roster cap complacent, but he is not looking to rush into a situation, which would put the Red Wings at a disadvantage.

At some point he will have to make a move regardless of whether it will be a good deal or not because the Wings are over the roster limit.

Another move they could make is to send Danny DeKeyser and Gustav Nyquist to the AHL because they are able to go down without having to go through waivers, but I doubt that the Red Wings would send down a defenseman who became a mainstay on the point last season or a third line forward who out played a few veterans.

Patrick Eaves, Jordin Tootoo, and Cory Emmerton could be on the way out before the season begins. Whatever the Red Wings do, they have to do it fast because the NHL season in only a little over a month away from starting up.
