Nicklas Lidstrom Banner Raising on March 6th

According to the Detroit Red Wings organization, they will be honoring Nicklas Lidstrom by officially retiring his #5 on March 6th.

Everyone knew that Lidstrom’s number would be retired during the 2013-14 season because it was not viable to do it during a shortened season.

I am surprised by how late they decided to have the ceremony. When Steve Yzerman‘s number was retired it was on January 1st and while that is not a viable option this upcoming season, it made sense to do it around that same time frame.

The Detroit Red Wings will be playing their former heated rivals the Colorado Avalanche that night, which is a great send of for what once was the biggest rivalry in sports.

Nicklas Lidstrom will join Steve Yzerman, Sid Abel, Terry Sawchuk, Ted Lindsay, Alex Delvecchio, and Gordie Howe in the Joe’s rafters.

Make sure you cancel all of you plans on March 6th and get your ticket early because they will be going fast.
