The Detroit Red Wings Select: Anthony Mantha

The Detroit Red Wings traded the 18th pick to the San Jose Sharks and received in return the Shark’s 20th and 58th picks

With the 20th pick the Red Wings were still able to select the player they coveted in Anthony Mantha.

The Red Wings wanted a big goal scoring forward and they got it in Mantha. He is 6’4″ 200 pounds and led the CHL with 50 goals.

There are issues with his competitiveness and could remind people of Johan Franzen from time to time, but with the Red Wings taking an interest in him that can be changed.

The other knock is that he could be a one year wonder, but he possesses a great shot and in his career has more than .5 goals per game.

Mantha will likely spend at least one more season in the CHL developing before moving on the the AHL and eventually the NHL.

He is a competitive player and looking to make the Red Wings next season.
