Jakub Kindl becomes the first restricted free agent to re-sign with the Detroit Red Wings.

Per TSN it is a 4 year contract worth 9.6 million dollars, which would be a cap hit of $2.4 million.

This is big raise from his $883,333 cap hit from last season, but a well deserved one.

Before the season started, Kindl did not have a guaranteed spot and was on the bubble as a 6th or 7th defenseman, but when players went down on the blue line Jakub Kindl stepped up.

Kindl became a steady defenseman throughout the season and earned a spot on the Red Wings power play.

This is a good contract for the Red Wings because even if Kindl does not work out it will not hurt them.

Detroit currently has around $8.2 million left to re-sign RFAs Joakim Andersson, Gustav Nyquist, and Brendan Smith; along with possible free agents. That cap number will change as the Red Wings continue to make moves.
