Over the next few weeks here at Octopus Thrower we will be profiling a number of draft eligible players who may be dawning a Detroit Red Wings jersey and cap at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft on June 30th.
J.T. Compher is ranked 34th among North American players and 26th overall by the International Scouting Service, but could go earlier because of his intangibles.
J.T. Compher is a very skilled player on offense and defense, which suits in perfectly with the Red Wings system and gives them another player who could lead the team after Henrik Zetterberg retires.
He is not afraid to go into the dirty areas and could take over Tomas Holmstrom‘s office once he makes it to the NHL.
On defense, he is always in the right position and he keeps the puck to the outside.
Compher is a born leader and proved it by captaining the USA U18 team to 1st place in the 5 nation tournament.
He has committed to playing for the University of Michigan next season and will spend at least three seasons in Ann Arbor before heading to the NHL.
J.T. Compher’s breakdown:
Why He Interests The Red Wings:
|Detroit has been missing a player like J.T. Compher since the days of Gerard Gallant. He will not be the biggest man on the ice, but he will be the most physical.|
|Will receive direction and seasoning at U of M next season. Has the potential to be a top 6 NHL forward and should crack the Wings’ lineup after three years in the NCAA and a year in Grand Rapids.|
