Grand Rapids Griffins Get A Boost From Red Wing Players

After the Detroit Red Wings were knocked out of the playoffs, they assigned Gustav Nyquist, Joakim Andersson, and Danny DeKeyser to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Before the NHL season started the Nyquist – Andersson – Tatar line was one of the most dominate lines in the AHL and now they are once again united for the rest of the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Nyquist and Andersson were sent down in order to play in Game 4 and Game 5, both of which were victories for the Griffins and they now have the OKC Barons against the wall with a 3-2 series lead.

In those two games; Nyquist has an assist, Andersson has a goal and two assists, and Tatar has a goal and an assist. The Griffins are 2 and 0 with Nyquist and Andersson back in the AHL.

Danny DeKeyser is still recovering from his broken thumb, but if the Griffins make it to the Calder Cup Finals he could make a return to the ice.

DeKeyser was a solid player for the Red Wings and will certainly upgrade the Griffins’ blue line in the Finals. He could use the extra playing time as well, since he has played only 13 profession hockey games in his career.

If the Griffins can get past the Barons it will be their first trip the the Calder Cup Finals in franchise history.
