Highlights – 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Game 2 – Detroit Red Wings vs Chicago Blackhawks

What a difference a game makes for the Detroit Red Wings. In Game Two they came out firing on all cylinders and made the game easy for Jimmy Howard. Chicago might have taken the 1st Period with a Patrick Kane goal, but in the 2nd Detroit took the lead thanks to Damien Brunner and Brendan Smith. In the 3rd, Johan Franzen and Valtteri Filppula finished off the game with beautiful goals of their own.

In the last game preview and our article about Niklas Kronwall, we talked about the defense needing to step up and produce offensively and it happened last night. Jakub Kindl, Brendan Smith, and Jonathan Ericsson were big reasons behind three of the Red Wings four goals, but Smith is currently the only defenseman with a goal in the playoffs. That needs to change and quickly.

Here is what Smith had to say post-game.

As a Red Wing fan, I am getting really tired of Marian Hossa embellishing every time there is a stick around him.

I know Smith’s stick was there, but Hossa’s embellishment is just pathetic.

Game Three is on Monday, May 20th at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. For the full schedule visit our Playoff Schedule Page.
