Preview: Red Wings Need Two Points Tonight For Eighth Place

The Detroit Red Wings face-off against the Los Angeles Kings in Joe Louis Arena tonight at 7:30 p.m. EDT.

Detroit is coming off of a big win against the Phoenix Coyotes which kept them in the playoff hunt. With the playoffs three games away and Detroit in the hunt to make them, their best players have to continue to step up and produce. Henrik Zetterberg did just that against the Yotes and will be called upon to do the same thing tonight.

The Kings have been playing solid hockey and have gone 3-1-1 in their past five games. The combination of Jonathan Quick and Jonathan Bernier in net is going to be a tough egg to crack for the the Red Wings, no mater which one is in net.

Projected Line-up

Henrik Zetterberg – Pavel Datsyuk – Justin Abdelkader

Johan Franzen – Valtteri Filppula – Daniel Cleary

Gustav Nyquist – Joakim Andersson  Damien Brunner

Patrick Eaves – Cory Emmerton – Jordin Tootoo

Niklas Kronwall – Jonathan Ericsson

Brendan Smith  Kyle Quincey

Jakub Kindl  Danny DeKeyser

Jimmy Howard

With three points in the last game, Henrik Zetterberg will be called on once again to lead the Wings to a victory

Todd Bertuzzi has a very good shot at returning to the ice during tonight’s game against LA.

After a bounce back game from Jimmy Howard against Phoenix, I expect him to play lights out tonight.

Danny DeKeyser has stepped up and filled a vital role on the Red Wings blue line.

Playoff Picture – With a Dallas loss last night, Detroit stays in 9th place and is only 1 point behind the 8th place Blue Jackets.

Prediction: LA is coming to Detroit after dropping a game to Minnesota last night. The Red Wings need to get the early jump on the Kings and if they can secure an early lead they will be able to rest players in the 3rd. Red Wings victory 3-2.
