Preview: With Five Games Left, The Red Wings Cannot Hold Anything Back Now

Tonight the Detroit Red Wings are in Vancouver to take on the Canucks at 10:00 p.m. EDT.

In their past two meetings Detroit not only beat the Canucks, they crushed them. Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk, and Damien Brunner were a big part of both wins and will have to be once again. With only 5 games left in the season Detroit needs to win out to all but guarantee a spot in the playoffs.

Vancouver on the other hand already has their playoff spot wrapped up and are looking to play the role of spoiler to the Red Wings. Roberto Luongo will more than likely get the start in net, which should help the Red Wings since both wins came of off Lu. On offense the Wings have to keep an eye out for the Sedins because they can and will make something out of nothing.

Projected Line-up

Forwards

Henrik Zetterberg – Pavel Datsyuk – Justin Abdelkader

Johan Franzen – Valtteri Filppula – Daniel Cleary

Gustav Nyquist – Joakim Andersson  Damien Brunner

Drew Miller  Cory Emmerton – Jordin Tootoo

Defensemen

Niklas Kronwall – Jonathan Ericsson

Brendan Smith  Kyle Quincey

Jakub Kindl  Danny DeKeyser

Goaltender

Jimmy Howard

After a bad game by Jimmy Howard, which saw his emotions get the better of him, I expect a rebound game from him tonight.

The Nyquist, Andersson, Brunner line was very good against the Flames.

Johan Franzen picked up a lucky goal on Miikka Kiprusoff, but it shows that when players put the puck on net anything can happen.

Jordin Tootoo has been a phenomenal fore-checker for the Wings recently and could usurp Eaves role in the line-up tonight.

Playoff Standings – The Wings currently sit in 10th place in the West, but are only 2 points out of 8th.

Prediction: This a a big game for the Red Wings and after pulling themselves together with two days off I expect good things from the team. Wings victory 4-1.
