Preview: Red Wings Want St. Louis To Leave Singing The Blues

The Detroit Red Wings host the St. Louis Blues at Joe Louis Arena for an afternoon game, which starts at 12:30 p.m. EDT.

Detroit is coming off of an overtime win in Colorado. A game which they didn’t deserve to win after being clearly out shot in the third period, but Jimmy Howard stepped up to the challenge and kept the Wings in it. It was also Danny DeKeyser‘s first game in a Red Wing sweater. To see how I felt about his play check here.

St. Louis made a big move at the trade deadline by bringing in Jay Bouwmeester and are currently on a three game winning streak. To beat the Blues the Red Wings will have to solve the rookie goaltender Jake Allen, who has been impressive of late and kept the Blues in the playoff hunt.

Projected Line-up

Henrik Zetterberg – Pavel Datsyuk – Justin Abdelkader

Valtteri Filppula – Johan Franzen – Gustav Nyquist

Daniel Cleary – Joakim Andersson  Drew Miller

Patrick Eaves – Cory Emmerton – Jordin Tootoo

Niklas Kronwall – Jonathan Ericsson

Jakub Kindl  Kyle Quincey

Danny DeKeyser  Ian White

Jimmy Howard

This is a must win game for the Red Wings, St. Louis is 1 point behind them in the standings.

Datsyuk and Zetterberg played well together and would like to see them paired up again today.

The Filppula – Franzen – Nyquist line played very well together as well and I liked seeing Franzen at center.

Riley Sheahan was called up to the Red Wings and could see playing time today if someone is hurt.

Random Fact – The Red Wings are 2-2-1 in afternoon games this season.

Prediction: Babcock and the Wings know they cannot lose this game and will come out firing on all cylinders. Wings victory 3-1.

UPDATE: Sheahan in and Tootoo out.
