Danny DeKeyser Signs With The Detroit Red Wings

It is Official Danny DeKeyser is coming to Detroit.

Danny DeKeyser is a 23 year old, 6’3”, 198 pound defenseman from Western Michigan University; who would be able to immediately step in on defense for the Detroit Red Wings. In three years at Western Michigan DeKeyser, was responsible in the defensive zone and had a career +23, while putting up 49 points, 12 goals, in 118 games.

When Red Wings assistant general manager Jim Nill spoke with Khan about what DeKeyser could bring the Wings, he had this to say.

“He’s a character player, great family background, great size, range, moves the puck well, a very good skater for a big man,” Nill said. “He’s solid all-around defensively. Not a big point-producer. He knows the game well, plays within his limitations.”
“He’s hard to beat one-on-one because of his range, his reach and his skating ability.”

Dekesyer could become the prototypical defensive defenseman for the Red Wings; he has a big body, a long reach, and is fast enough that he rarely gets beat to the outside. While maybe not this season, he could ultimately be Brad Stuart’s replacement.

He will not produce a lot of points in the NHL, but he has a solid outlet pass to get the offense moving. The Red Wings’ brass figure his offensive game will continue to develop while with the organization.

When Danny DeKeyser joins the Red Wings, their defensive line up would be one of the youngest in the NHL. Kronwall would be the only starter over 30 and Lashoff, Smith, and DeKeyser are all under 24. The pairing could end up looking like this.

Kronwall – Ericsson
Smith – DeKeyser
Kindl – Lashoff

Danny DeKeyser, welcome to your childhood dream of playing for the greatest organization in sports, The Detroit Red Wings.

UPDATE: The Detroit Red Wings have confirmed it and now we know he will wear #65 in Detroit.
