The Red Wings are getting healthier every game, but Valtteri Filppula is still day-to-day with his shoulder injury, Mikael Samuelsson‘s broken finger will keep him off the ice for another month, and the backs of Darren Helm and Todd Bertuzzi continue to keep them out of the line-up and there is no time table for their return. Datsyuk could really use the services of Samuelsson, Filppula, and Bertuzzi because the experiment of Abdelkader and Cleary has not been working very well.
The addition of Tomas Tatar to Datsyuk’s wing halfway into the second period and it worked well; he replaced Justin Abdelkader, who dropped down to the thrid line. He brought a bit of a spark to the Wings’ second line, but it was not enough, the next shift Abs was back next to Datsyuk.
On defense, Ian White continues to be in Mike Babcock’s doghouse. He has been a healthy scratch for the last four games. White has done a little too much talking to the media this season and could be causing a distraction within the locker room. More than likely the Wings are looking to offload White in a trade. Head on over and check out our article on the possibility of White being traded.
The shoulder of Carlo Colaiacovo is getting closer to being fully healed. Once he rejoins the Wings, they will have 9 defensemen on the roster. The reality is that Brian Lashoff will probably be sent down to the AHL, but there is an off chance that Kent Huskins could be sent down instead and White being traded. If that happens then Lashoff will continue to remain where he belongs, with the Wings.
The Red Wings goaltending has been very good the past few games. Jonas Gustavsson and Jimmy Howard have been very good and although the Wings have not won all of their games since the Vancouver blow-out it is not because of their goalies.
Talking about the goaltending, also, gave me a reason to post this video of Howard robbing John Mitchell in last night’s game, enjoy.
