Preview: Jordin Tootoo versus Patrick Bordeleau Just Doesn’t Have The Same Ring

The Detroit Red Wings host the Colorado Avalanche in The Joe tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Every Wings’ fan was looking forward to a Red Wings – Avalanche game in the 90′s and early 2000′s, but now the Avs are a shell of what they were. Boy do I still hate them though.

The Red Wings come into tonight’s game after a tough loss against Chicago. Over the first two periods, the Red Wings did not deserve to win the game, but they turned up the pressure in the third. Goaler Jimmy Howard had a stellar game, which gave the Wings a chance to steal one from Chicago. At the end of the game though, bad luck did the Wings in. Against the Avs, the Wings will need to create their own luck.

Colorado has one win in their past five games and have not been very good all season. The Avs do have Ryan O’Reilly rejoining the team and could create the spark Colorado is looking for. In net, Semyon Varlamov has had a good season and is the main reason that the Avs are not in last place.

Projected Line-up

Johan Franzen – Henrik Zetterberg – Damien Brunner

Daniel Cleary – Pavel Datsyuk – Justin Abdelkader

Tomas Tatar – Joakim Andersson – Patrick Eaves

Drew Miller – Cory Emmerton – Jordin Tootoo

Defense:

Niklas Kronwall – Jonathan Ericsson

Kyle Quincey – Brendan Smith

Brian Lashoff – Jakub Kindl

Goaltender

Jimmy Howard

Jonathan Ericsson continues to be the Red Wings best defenseman and besides a fluky clearing attempt had a great game against Chicago.

Jakub Kindl continues to struggle behind the Wings’ net. He makes bad passes and cannot receive a puck cleanly, which is bring down Lashoff’s play. (The same thing he did to Ericsson last season)

How anyone can stay Jimmy Howard is not a great goalie is beyond me this season. He has had his struggles, but when he is on, he is an elite goalie.

On offense, the Wings have only scored 3 goals in their past 3 games. The Wings need more production if they want to consistently win games.

Another down area on ofeense is Pavel Datsyuk. Cleary and Abdelkader have not helped much and he has been shouldering the load on the second line, but he needs to be better.

Prediction: Red Wings will continue their up and down season by beating a bad team, also know as the Colorado Avalanche. Wings score more than one goal in a 3-1 victory.
