In Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Wild, forward Devin Setoguchi cross-checked Kyle Quincey in the face. Setoguchi was given a double-minor for high sticking during the game and was fined $8,108.11, which is the maximum a first time offender can receive in his case, today.
As per the new CBA rules first time offenders are fined the lesser of $10,000 or half of his daily salary.
Is the fine enough though? Setoguchi recklessly brought his stick up and hit Quincey in the face, but I don’t believe he did it out of malice. After the play was over Setoguchi was clearly worried about Quincey and knew he made a mistake. Quincey left the game after the hit, but returned to action in the third period.
