If you are prone to fits of Red Wing related depression or drinking, there is a little red “X” at the top right hand side of your screen; I suggest you press it now.
The Red Wings were finally starting to get healthy until Wednesday, February 13th. The Wings now have seven players on Injured Reserve, one day-to-day, and one in Grand Rapids on a conditioning stint.
Todd Bertuzzi (back), Darren Helm (back), Carlo Colaiacovo (shoulder), and Brendan Smith (shoulder) are all weeks away from returning to the line-up. Bertuzzi’s back has been so bad that he was hospitalized and surgery is on the table.
Pavel Datsyuk was injured in the loss against the Blues. The Red Wings are calling it an upper-body injury and it is not know how long he will be out. The Red Wings record without Datsyuk in the line-up is terrible to say the least.
Because of all these injuries the Red Wings have had to call up a lot of Grand Rapids Griffins, which most Wings fans are not against. The latest Griffin call-up was Gustav Nyquist, who showed a lot of promise last season with the Wings and has the 4th most points in the AHL this year. Nyquist was called up because of Datysuk’s injury and while Wings fans are excited to see him play, it cost the Wings an insanely talented forward.
