Preview: Detroit Red Wings Vs. Calgary Flames

Tonight the Detroit Red Wings faceoff against the Calgary Flames in Joe Louis Arena at 7:30 pm ET.

The Red Wings are coming of a 4-2 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Red Wings started off the game well by scoring the first goal, but after that the Blue Jackets took over. The Wings out shot the Blue Jackets, but could not solve Steve Mason. Speaking of goalies, Jimmy Howard looked tired and let in a few bad goals. After a night off expect Jimmy to be back on his game.

Detroit will have to head into the game against Calgary with renewed spirit. The Flames have not had a great season so far, winning only one game, but they took both Chicago and Vancouver into a shootout. New addition and former Red Wing Jiri Hudler has 5 points for the Flames in only 3 games. The Red Wings defence will have to keep a close eye on him and keep him out goal scoring areas.

Projected Line-up

Johan Franzen – Henrik Zetterberg – Damien Brunner

Tomas Tatar – Pavel Datsyuk – Valtteri Filppula

Daniel Cleary – Justin Abdelkader – Todd Bertuzzi

Drew Miller Cory Emmerton – Jordin Tootoo

Niklas Kronwall – Jonathan Ericsson

Kyle Quincey – Ian White

Kent Huskins – Brian Lashoff

Jimmy Howard

Defenseman Ian White is eyeing to return from injury in time to play tonight against the Flames. If he cannot return then Brian Lashoff will return to the ice from his hiatus in the Leino Lounge.

Former Red Wing Jiri Hudler makes his return to Detroit and Joe Louis Arena. Let’s hope the Wings make it a sad homecoming for him.

The Red Wings had plenty of chances against the Blue Jackets in their last game, but they will need their special teams to contribute. The Flames have the 28th worst penalty kill and the Wings will need to take advantage of it.

Griffins goalie Petr Mrazek has been called up to the Wings and will get his first taste of NHL action, albeit from the bench. If Neither Jonas Gustavsson nor Joey MacDonald are able to return Mrazek will relieve Howard when he needs a rest this week and start his first NHL game.

Prediction: Hudler scores in his return to Detroit, but the Red Wings take the game off of a Tomas Tatar goal. Wings win 3-2.

Update: Brian Lashoff in, Jakub Kindl out.
