Preview: Detroit Red Wings at Columbus Blue Jackets

The Detroit Red Wings are looking to extend their winning streak tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7:00 pm ET.

In their first meeting the Red Wings were coming off an embarrassing loss to the St. Louis Blues and looking for their first win of the season. Tonight the Wings are coming off of a big win against the Blues and are looking to extend their winning streak to three games.

The Red Wings will have to avoid coming out flat against the Blue Jackets. While they may have lost Rick Nash, the Blue Jackets are much deeper on offence and can score goals and Sergei Bobrovski has been solid in net for the team. Jimmy Howard will have to out duel him for the Red Wings to win this game.

Projected Line-up

Johan Franzen – Henrik Zetterberg – Damien Brunner

Todd Bertuzzi – Pavel Datsyuk – Valtteri Filppula

Daniel Cleary – Justin Abdelkader – Patrick Eaves

Drew Miller Cory Emmerton – Jordin Tootoo

Niklas Kronwall – Jonathan Ericsson

Brendan Smith – Kyle Quincey

Kent Huskins – Jakub Kindl

Jimmy Howard

Kent Huskins might not be able to play tonight because of the devastating hit he received from David Backes. Backes was given a 5 minute major and 10 minute misconduct for the hit as the ref deemed it was a hit to the head. Do not expect Shanahan to review this hit though, because the ref got this one wrong. Backes caught Huskins admiring his pass and delivered a clean hit. If Huskins cannot play expect Brian Lashoff to take his place.

Thankfully Jimmy Howard escaped injury after after being ran into by a Blues’ player. After it happened he was grimacing in pain, but play continued and he stayed in the game.

Henrik Zetterberg led the way for the Red Wings against the Blues with a 5 point night (3 goals, 2 assist) and will look to do the same in Columbus.

Pavel Datsyuk let a beautiful wrister go on the power play which beat Brian Elliott short side. Datsyuk seems to enjoy setting up plays rather than scoring himself. Even though he scored, one or two shots on goal won’t cut it, the Wings need him to shoot more often.

Prediction: Red Wings ride their emmotial high from last night victory against the Blues and beat up on the Blue Jackets. 3-1 victory for the Wings
