Preview: Detroit Red Wings Vs. Dallas Stars

The Detroit Red Wings are looking for revenge tonight against the Dallas Stars, who spoiled the Red Wings home opener, puck drop is 7:30 p.m. ET.

This will be Dallas’ second game in two nights, while Detroit is coming into the game with a night off; a reversal of the first time the two teams met.

Dallas’ star winger Jamie Benn has re-signed with the team and adds another scoring winger to the already dangerous line-up. Detroit will have to be on top of their game defensively to keep the puck out from behind Jimmy Howard and keep the shooting lanes covered.

Projected Line-up

Forwards

Johan Franzen – Henrik Zetterberg – Damien Brunner

Todd Bertuzzi – Pavel Datsyuk – Valtteri Filppula

Dan Cleary – Justin Abdelkader – Patrick Eaves

Drew Miller Cory Emmerton – Jordin Tootoo

Defensemen

Niklas Kronwall – Jonathan Ericsson

Brendan Smith – Kyle Quincey

Kent Huskins – Jakub Kindl

Goaltender

Jimmy Howard

There is reason to hope Franzen will start getting hot soon. He scored against the Chicago Blackhawks and while it wasn’t a pretty goal, he put himself in a scoring position and once the puck was on his stick he let it go. If he can keep going to the dirty areas, he will keep getting chances to produce for the Wings.

Jakub Kindl is back in the line-up today in what I can only hope is his last and final shot at holding onto a spot with the Red Wings. Both Kent Huskins and Brian Lashoff have out played him on the blueline.

Jimmy Howard is making his 6th start of the season and will continue to be the backstop for the Red Wings until Jonas Gustavsson is healthy enough to relieve him for a game. Jimmy will need to be on top of his game tonight in order to stand up against Dallas’ high flying offence.

Henrik Zetterberg and Damien Brunner are leading the Red Wings in shots this season, but both need to start puting more of their shots behind the goalie. Pavel Datsyuk is pretty far behind them and Mike Babcock has challenged him to shoot more.

Prediction: Dallas comes into the game tired and Detroit takes advantage of it. Detroit continues their inconsistent season by beating the Stars 3-1.
