After a rude awakening in St. Louis on Saturday, the Red Wings are looking to bounce back with a victory against the Blue Jackets at 7:30 tonight.

Columbus beat the Nashville Predators on Saturday in a shootout and might not be the pushover that everyone believed they would. They are deeper on offence and Bobrovsky was solid in net.

The Red Wings need a much better effort than they gave on Saturday because if they continue to play like that they will not be able to beat anyone. Mike Babcock and Henrik Zetterberg both stated that the Wing were going to have to compete harder and get their skates moving. I am looking for the Wings to get back to basics in this game; crisp passes, hard hits, and eliminating the mental mistakes.

Projected Line-up

Forwards

Henrik Zetterberg – Pavel Datsyuk – Damien Brunner

Johan Franzen – Valtteri Filppula – Mikael Samuelsson

Niklas Kronwall – Jonathan Ericsson

Brendan Smith – Kyle Quincey

Carlo Colaiacovo – Ian White

The Red Wings will be without Jan Mursak (shoulder), Todd Bertuzzi (mono), Darren Helm (back), Jakub Kindl (groin), Jonas Gustavsson (groin) and possibly Jonathan Ericsson who hurt his shoulder in practice yesterday.

The Red Wings called up Grand Rapids Griffins goalie Thomas McCollum to back-up Jimmy Howard. The Red Wings did not call up anyone else and will be starting all of their healthy players today. No one in the Leino Lounge tonight.

Patrick Eaves will be playing today because of the injury to Jan Mursak and Red Wing fans everywhere are looking forward to seeing him back on the ice.

The Red Wings need to go out and play tough, physical hockey. Win or lose if they come out with jump and play a full 60 minute game, I will consider it a win moving forward for the season.

Prediction: The Blue Jackets are firing on all cylinders, while the Red Wings look like a lemon rolling out of the factory. The Red Wings will lack jump in the 1st period and Columbus will capitalize on it. But the Wings will come back and Jimmy Howard will steal the Wings a 3-2 victory.

Update: Brian Lashoff has been called up by the Red Wings. If Ericsson is not able to play Lashoff will make his NHL debut.
