Detroit Red Wings Injury Report

Before the Detroit Red Wings game at St. Louis Blues began yesterday it was reported that Todd Bertuzzi has mono. He should be out for several weeks while recovering and was placed on short term IR, joining Darren Helm and his back. This opened up a roster sport which the Red Wings did not fill since Jan Mursak was ready to play and Patrick Eaves was cleared.

Detroit Free Press:

“I’m not very happy right now,” Bertuzzi said. “Really didn’t need a start to the season like this. Bad luck, I guess.”

The bad luck continued for the Wings as Jan Mursak was hit awkwardly by David Backes during the first period and received and upper body injury. He did not return to the game. Mursak will be going to receive a CT scan today in order to determine the extent of the injury. If Mursak will not be able to play on Monday expect the Red Wings to call up a Griffin like Sheahan or Andersson, who can be effective on the 4th line.

Gustav Nyquist is another choice as a call-up, but the Red Wings need to bring in a gritty, high energy player in order to complete the 4th line. If Nyquist is brought up expect him to play 3rd line minutes, with a possibility of 2nd line minutes.

Expect Patrick Eaves to start on Monday and either Mursak or a Griffins call-up to round out the roster.
