Although a lockout is no doubt looming, players have to still prepare as if the season were to start on September 15th. Some of the Wings players skated today in Troy , due to the ice not being ready at JLA, where Anser Khan talked to Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves about his current injury situation.
Eaves suffered a concussion after blocking a shot by Roman Josi with his head. Initially he was expected to be out for a month or two. However, as the All-Star break and trade deadline passed us with little update on how Eaves was doing it was clear that he was done for the season. As Free Agency picked up 2 months ago, reports were that Eaves would be healthy and ready to play once the season would start.
Anser Khan spoke to Eaves today about how he was feeling and the answers weren’t too appeasing.
Patrick Eaves skated, said he has good days and bad days. The headaches are fewer and further apart, but not certain to be ready for camp.
Not the news that we wanted to hear. At least he is making progress but it is almost 10 months since the incident happened and I don’t think anyone thought that the injury would linger this long.
I don’t know how many people have considered this yet but as time passes and little progress being made, one has to question whether we will ever see Patrick Eaves play again. Personally, I think he will, however, I doubt that it will be at the level of what he has done in the past.
In 09-10 and 10-11, Eaves scored 22 points and 20 points respectively. Last season, where he recorded 1 point in 10 games, he was expected to take a big step forward and was even expected to see some time on the top-6.
If we can find anything good out of a lockout it may be that Patty Eaves can play again.
