Wings make offer to Carlo Colaiacovo

According to an inside source, the Detroit Red Wings have made an offer to free agent defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo.

The offer for Colaiacovo is 2 years at 2.7 million per. If that is in fact the offer I am extremely happy with this deal. He has a very similar contract to what Ian White got last season and I think that is correct as I put them on about them same level with White having a bit more upside.

The Wings have been needing another defenseman for a while so it is nice to see them go after a quality second pairing guy like Carlo rather than signing a guy like Mike Commodore as a band aid player.

Expect Colaiacovo to be paired with Ian White on the second pairing and either Jonathan Ericsson or Brendan Smith to play with Nick Kronwall on the first pairing.

If this deal does go through expect the Wings to be done with their offseason moves on defense. They will have 7 defenseman and barring a trade it will most likely be those 7 defenseman that will play in the season opener.

As soon as we learn about new information we will update.
