I would be more than happy to drop $30 on one of these.

Sorry about the lack of posts from myself recently. Quarter end at work nearly destroyed me. However, that is in the past, and the PLAYOFFS are in the future! I’ll do a Red Wings preview soon, but for now, I’m going to do a quick rundown of the other series and make some bad/amazing puns about them.  Here…we…GO!

Eastern Conference

(1) NY Rangers vs (8) Senators

Nobody gave Ottawa a chance to finish above 27th in the final league standings.  They stumbled (4-6 their last 10) their way down the stretch but still finished in 8th.  The Rangers have the second most perfect person on the planet in Henrik Lunqvist.    I think the Rangers will win, sending the Senators Ottawa-of the playoffs in no time.  Rangers in 5.

(2) Boston vs (7) Washington

Uh-oh for Boston – Nicklas Backstrom’s back!  Tim Thomas hasn’t been as good this season.  I’m thinking the Capitals will Wash themselves of the regular season and pull off the upset.  Capitals in 6.

(3) Florida vs (6) New Jersey

I hate divisional standings.  Florida finished with 94 points.  NJ had 102.  Florida has home ice advantage.  I hope something is done about this for next season.  Anyway.  If there was a “Least Interesting Series” award, it would be this one.  I think Florida and their 18 OT/SO losses are going to have a Devil of a time in this series.  Devils in 5.

(4) Pittsburgh vs (5) Philly

This.  Is.  Going.  To.  Be.  Fantastical.  Seriously, I cannot wait for this series to start and I hope it goes seven games.  All overtime.  There will be a death in this series – player/coach/executive/lots of fans.  I’m not kidding.  This is by far the best series of the first round.  A metric crapload of talent, classic geographical rivalry, and some late-season intensity that will give me some very awesome hockey to watch.  It’s a shame one of these teams has to lose this early (stupid divisional standings at work again).  As for who’s going to win?  Well…Penguins can’t fly, can they?  Flyers in 9. (not a typo.  I wish it could go 9 games)

Western Conference

(1) Vancouver vs (8) LA Kings

Will there be a goal scored in this series?  It  looks like Daniel Sedin will be back for the start, but who knows.  Vancouver was the winner of a division that had no other teams qualify for the playoffs, while LA finished third in a division that was way down this year.  Tough call, but I’m thinking Luongo will be the King of this series.  Canucks in 7.

(2) St. Louis vs (7) San Jose

San Jose should be competing for the President’s Trophy, not thanking Dallas for tanking (3-7 their last 10 and losers of 5 in a row) to have a shot at the playoffs.  The Blues play the “Let’s get one goal and hope” method, which worked out pretty well for them.  If the Sharks don’t win at least two rounds, I suspect the entire team will be blown apart.  So…I think they’re singing the Blues in two weeks!  Blues in 6.

(3) Phoenix vs (6) Chicago

Just like the FLorida/NJ series, this one just doesn’t do it for me.  Sure, I’m going to watch if it’s on, but I’m not looking forward to sitting down with my slurpee and investing myself in it.  In other words, there’s minimal chances of a death in this series so it doesn’t excite me.  I’m good with it.  Also, it’s unknown if Toews is playing.  I’m thinking the Coyotes will out Hawk Chicago here.  Coyotes in 6.

(4) Nashville vs (5) Detroit

Wait for it…

And that concludes my brief predictions for the first round.  Any thoughts?  You know the drill – yell at me on Twitter if you think you can do better than me.  Also, please come with terms of a bet if you would like.  Gambling rules I mean hey let’s all have fun watching hockey!

I’ll be back by Tuesday night with an in-depth preview of the Wings first round series.  Oh yes.  Enjoy (if possible) your few hockey-free days.  Let’s do this.  GO WINGS!!
