Week In Review: Feb 12-18

This will be a little bit shorter than my previous reviews as I have to get down to the Joe for the Sharks game today.  This past week, the Wings played 3 games.  3 victories.  That’s how I like it.  Let’s do some quick game recaps!

Feb 12 vs Philly – I only saw the first 30 minutes of this game.  Stupid DVR errors (ok, probably human error, but still).  The Wings started off slow then came on late.  Joey Mac didn’t have a great game, unless you count his assists to the Flyers, but he played good enough to win.

Feb 14 vs Dallas – 21! 21! 21! 21! 21!  All around pretty good game.  It stinks that the shutout was ruined with 30ish seconds left, but still, a fantastic evening.  I loved the players going to center ice after the game to salute the crowd.  Other teams do this every game, but I think it’s more special when it’s done on a limited basis.

Feb 17 vs Nashville – Pavel Datsyuk is a better player on his butt than most players are on their skates.  Also, if that game didn’t make Shea Weber and Ryan Suter want to come to Detroit, I don’t know what will.  This game wasn’t the greatest, and I really, really wanted to see Tomas “THE SOUSE” Tatar, play, but it was two points.  Good to see the crowd give Joey Mac some props during the game when he bailed out the numerous mistakes by Kronwall, White, and Kindl.

Goal Of The Week:

Duh.

Hit Of The Week:

Again, there’s no question.

Goaltending Analysis:

Joey Mac played all three games, and he played really well.  Outside of a couple of giveaways and a few shaky saves, he is playing like a number one goaltender right now.  Howard is slated to start on Tuesday against the Hawks, so he’s making the most of his opportunity to solidify the number two job for the rest of this season and next season.  I feel that without Mac’s solid play, the Wings would have been forced to bring back Howie before he was fully ready.  But now, the big question:  Will the Wings put Ty Conklin on waivers and, if he clears, send him to Grand Rapids to work on his game?  Or do they send Joey Mac (who doesn’t have to clear waivers) to Grand Rapids?  I think Mac’s earned his time in the NHL.  We should find out in the next day or two.

Random Comment Of The Week:

What’s up with Kronwall right now?  He hasn’t had the greatest season this year.  Yes, I’m aware he has scored lots of goals, and I know plus/minus is mostly a team stat, but it still reflects on the players so a certain extent.  Not only that, but he gave the puck away numerous times against Nashville, and sometimes it seems like he has problems keeping the puck in at the blue line.  I like Kronwall a lot, and I’m happy he has a long term deal, I just hope he can fine tune his game before the playoffs.

This Week:

Home against San Jose on Sunday, at Chicago on Tuesday, home games against Vancouver on Thursday and Colorado on Saturday.  I think the Wings will have a bit of a letdown after being on a roll, so I’m thinking that 5 out of 8 points this week will be a success.

Classic Video Of The Week:

Game 6.  Loudest I have ever heard the Joe.
