Yes, the current home winning streak has been fantastic. I’ve been to 13 of the 21 games and had a fantastic time. It is awesome going to games and seeing them play well more often than not and coming away with two points. It is way more enjoyable than last year when, you know, we actually lost at home. In conclusion, winning 21 in a row at home has been fantastic. I still think one more thing needs to happen before the playoffs for the Wings to have a chance at the cup.
The Wings need to lose at home. Badly.
I mean…really, really bad. Maybe this bad. Quick aside – I was at that game, but thankfully, I got free tickets. That’s about all I need to remember from that game. Anyway, back on topic – why do I think the Wings need to get embarrassed at home? Simple – complacency. I believe that eventually, even though they say it won’t happen, the effort at home will not be there. I’m not blaming the Wings or Babcock, I blame human nature. You know those games when a team scores 4 or 5 goals early, the rest of the game is lame? I think this is similar. After winning so much, it will be more difficult to focus and “get up” for home games. So yes, they will eventually lose. But, why does it need to be a bad loss?
Just to remind them how it feels. You can bet after the game at Montreal before the All-Star break, there was a very bad aftertaste for quite a while. What happened? They went out and got 5 of 6 points in Western Canada. Boom. I think that’s part of the reason for the home winning streak. As every person ever has mentioned, the Wings aren’t a great road team. So what happens? They get mad after a loss and destroy everything at the Joe.
Obviously, I wish the Wings could go undefeated at home for the rest of the year. That is probably not going to happen. So, why not get them mad as hell so they come out blazing for the playoffs? It might not happen, and even if it did, it might not work. I just don’t want the Wings to think they have it “in the bag!” whenever the puck drops at home.
Does anyone else actually agree with me on this? Think I’m a total moron? You know the drill – comment or yell at me on Twitter.
