It’s September; and we have reached one more milestone before the start of the 2011-12 NHL season.
With the countdown until October and reaching that final threshold before the puck drops in the regular season Fansided is going to take a look at each team in the league one day at a time.
Heading to the land of opportunity New York. New York State is home to three NHL teams the / Buffalo Sabres, whom have already been covered, and the Rangers and Islanders…
The New York Islanders have some troubling situations: Lack of ticket sales, Possible relocation, Lack of playoff appearances; but they do have John Tavares locked up on a six-year $33million contact.
Then the Islanders started a new game show on Long Island called, “Wheel of Goaltenders, starring Dwayne Roloson and Rick DiPietro, then Kevin Poulin, Mikko Koskinen, Nathan Lawson and finally Al Montoya. (Note – which one gets the role of Vanna White???) These six guys all had serious positives and minuses on the season. With a 100% healthy DiPietro, Montoya, and now Evgeni Nabokov, it will be quite a camp to see who goes where.

As for the New York Rangers. A storied franchise from the Original Six. And off to a rocky start.
Star defenseman Marc Staal is already being held out of practice due to concussion-like symptoms – just a mere three days into training camp.
Now, before we all jump to conclusions and panic, there’s no reason to believe this is a serious cause for concern. Brooks also claims that Staal has passed all sorts of tests and has been cleared for contact.
