Red Wings To Announce New Assistant Coaches Today

And then there were three…

Last night it was released that the Red Wings would announce whom they have chosen for the two assistant coaching spots to replace both Paul MacLean (Ottawa Senators) and Brad McCrimmon (KHL) today.

Word from TSN’s Darren Dreger via Twitter is that the new coaches are “Off the map” – meaning it sounds like the organization is heading in the direction of some younger coaches.

Also announced yesterday the Red Wings signed Westland native and a former Michigan Tech Univ. player Chris Conner to a one-year two-way deal.

Conner is a 27 year old left-handed-shooting right wing that played in 60 regular season games with the Pittsburgh Penguins this past season. The 5’8” forward tallied 16 points (7 goals and 9 assist) and a +/- of 5 while only racking up 10 PIM. He saw one goal in this years short lived playoff run (7 games) for the Penguins.

UPDATE 10:02 a.m. : Western Michigan University has announced that head coach Jeff Blashill has resigned from his position with WMU (effective immediately) to take an assistant coaching position with the Red Wings.
