Red Wings Draft Pick: Tomas Jurco

Once again the Detroit Red Wings opted to not draft in the first round, instead they traded their first round pick for two in the second and left the 2011 NHL Entry Draft with nine new prospects.

Without further ado the name you all need to learn: Tomas Jurco

Drafted 35th over all this past weekend Jurco has fantastic hands (if you didn’t watch the video above to see that for yourself) and has been compared to Red Wings own Pavel Datsyuk along with fellow Slovakian and former Red Wing Marian Hossa.

This past season the right winger tallied 56 points (31 goals and 25 assist) in 60 regular season games for the Saint John Seadogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) before going on to win the Memorial Cup as the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) champions.

Having already reached the peak of what he can do playing in the juniors I would hope to see him moved to the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL) for the start of this coming season.

Take another look at Tomas Jurco before he becomes a household name in Hockeytown…
