Red Wings call it in against the Hurricanes, lose Zetterberg

It was one of those games where the Red Wings really did not have to win. Detroit already locked themselves into a playoff spot when they won the central division with the two points they earned over the division rival Nashville Predators. It was one they needed to win in the aspect of keeping in good form for the post season.

Midway though the first period Detroit’s Henrik Zetterberg had a collision in the neutral zone with Carolina’s Bryan Allen and left the game limping to the locker room – he did not return to the game.

Fox Sports Detroit’s (FSD) Trevor Thompson commented on Twitter: I would be shocked if Henrik Zetterberg played for the Wings vs. Blackhawks on Fri. BAD, PAINFUL limp leaving the arena tonite.

The Hurricanes fighting for their playoff lives put three shots (Derek Joslin, Jeff Skinner, and Erik Cole) Jimmy Howard; while Cam Ward turned aside all 42 shots the Red Wings put on goal.

Carolina has two games remaining and are two points behind the 8th place New York Rangers; whom also have two games remaining.

The Red Wings also have two games left in the regular season: a home-and-home with the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks.
