What's the best thing about Modano? His wife!

Modano coming home? Say it ain't so!

What do you think the probability is that Mike Modano will return to Michigan to wear a winged wheel?  Last week when NOHS had the crazy thought that Modano could possibly be signed by the Red Wings I thought it was pretty far fetched, highly unlikely, and I didn’t want to see it happen.  I still don’t.

With today being the first day of “Let’s Make A Deal” there is a lot of shuffling, bargaining, and deal making going on and at the time of this writing we’re not even through the first day!  There are increased rumors that Mikey is not going to be resigned by the Stars, his projected salary would be $1M to $2M, and Holland might consider him for his experience and veteran leadership.  While his leadership and experience is attractive at a price that fits very nicely into the budget, lets not forget one glaring fact…he’s 40 years old.  I know Lidstrom is 40 too, but come on…he’s Lidstrom!

More after the break…

Mikey was a very skilled and accomplished forward.  He played in 8 All-Star games, lead Dallas to a Stanley Cup championship in 1999, played for the same franchise for 20 years, and was the face and image of said franchise.  But facts are facts and the guy is 40 years old and is debating retirement.  I would rather see Kenny sign a guy that still has some life left.

The following is a line graph showing Modano’s age compared to his point production in the regular season.  See how the point production trends (black line) down as age goes up?  Coincidence?  I think not.

Modano's Point Production vs Age

I will entertain the notion that it would be kinda cool to see Mikey leave a franchise that has been home for 20 years to come back to him birthplace and win another cup, but unfortunately I feel like it’s 5 years too late.

Dear Kenny: please keep shopping!
