Evgeny Kuznetsov

Mock draft 2010 update: My first pick

Well after 20 rounds of cherry picking I got to make my first round draft choice and I chose Evgeny Kuznetsov, a center, from Russia.  Up until recently recently I have never heard of the kid, but after doing a bit of research I’m happy that he was still available.  He is ranked 3rd among International skaters, he is 172 lbs, 6′ tall, and I think he will make a valuable additional to at least our 3rd or 4th lines, maybe even out 2nd.  His KHL performance wasn’t very impressive scoring only 8 points in 35 games, but he is very fast (like a marsupial) and he can play a center or wing position.  He has very talented hands and has a great hockey sense that makes him a very dangerous offensive weapon both in scoring and play making…does that sound like another Russian we know? (hint…#13)  The kid is only 17 so we can’t expect him to have the moves of Dangle just yet, but the kid shows a lot of potential.

More after the break…

Ken Holland is looking to add talented players (duh!) to our lineup and he is looking for some offensive talent…

We’ve got some young defensemen coming.  Probably, ideally, you’d like to find some forwards with some scoring touch. Again, if there’s a defenseman there that we feel has fallen, we’ll take him. We’re going to take the best player available. You just try to get as much talent as you can as quickly as you can and go to work trying to develop it into a finished product.
