I will typically write about the Red Wings or major NHL news, but when I read this story I got a little annoyed. By now I am sure all of you have seen the Chrissy Pronger image published in the Chicago Tribune. I thought the image was funny. Not ha-ha funny, but it made me smile because I don’t like Pronger and any image of him in a skirt will make me happy. What you may not know is that Angela Ruggiero, a 3 time Olympian in women’s hockey, was offended by the image.
Some people are still ignorant. Our sport doesn’t get a lot of exposure, so you have to see us play in the world championships or the Olympics to see what the highest caliber of women’s hockey is. Obviously, it’s offensive. It’s disappointing more than anything.
I, for the life of me, can’t see how anyone could or should be offended by this image unless you’re Chris Pronger, Tarzan, or Jane. When I saw this the thought of women’s hockey NEVER came across my mind. I don’t even know how Angela made the connection to women’s hockey. The only thing Angela succeeded in doing was getting us to talk or think about women’s hockey in June. I’ve watched women’s hockey, but the lack of hits and slow pace isn’t my cup of tea.
In case you were wondering (or cared) if Chris was offended…
I don’t read what you guys write, good or bad. I really couldn’t care, to be honest with you. I’m worried about playing the game.
