Holmstrom battling it out infront of Luongo

Roster round up: Should Homer go home?

Often imitated, but never duplicated, Tomas Holmstrom is arguably the best player in the league when it comes to screening a goaltender and obstructing their view.  Dustin Byfuglien from Chicago is one of the closest imitators, but Holmstrom still holds the unofficial record for most goals scored within 3 feet of the net.  At $2.25 million he is a steal!

Holmstrom is pushing 36 years of age and has been on the squad since 1997.  He is about as fast on ice as molasses, but that doesn’t matter.  He’s big, he’s strong, he’s as tough to move as a tree, and he makes a better door than a window.  Similar to rebounds in basketball, he provides scoring opportunities.

I believe Holmstrom is another Red Wing lifer.  I don’t see his salary going up or down all that much and I don’t see him going somewhere else.  His best chances of winning a Stanley Cup are with Detroit and his niche playing ability fits in beautifully on the power play with Lidstrom and Rafalski peppering shots from the point.

I would like to see him signed for a 2 to 4 year contract for under $2.5 million.
