Game 7, I mean game 3 run down

To put it bluntly, the Wings will consider tonight game 7.  The chances of an NHL team coming back from a 0-3 deficit to win the series is nearly impossible.  The 1942 Maple Leafs and the 1975 Islanders prove that it is possible, but they weren’t playing against the 2010 Sharks or Joe Pavelski.

Much has already been said about the officiating and both sides are complaining.  Darren Dreger and Joe Yerdon talk about the increase in diving calls and that the league is cracking down.  What the league needs in a course on officiating and a review of the rule book. Diving is a result of powder puff calls.  The math is simple, start calling real penalties and diving will decrease.  A player will be less likely to fall down onto the ice and put his team at a disadvantage if the refs are less likely to call “sticks touching my arm” as hooking.

Much has also been said about the Wings being outplayed, especially from the Wings themselves.  Whenever a team loses it’s obvious they need to play better.  The Wings were beaten on the face offs, beaten on the special teams, and the only position they weren’t outplayed was goal.  Howard has performed remarkably well during these playoffs and has given the Wings a fighting chance every night which is the most you can ask.

Look for the Wings to come out like they did against the Coyotes in game 7.  The Wings are home and the octopi will fly!

For those of you that are unable to make it to The Joe, the game will NOT be broadcast in it’s entirety on Versus.  The Penguins-Montreal game will be broadcast first.  You’ll have to catch it on Fox Sports Detroit or NHL Center Ice.
