I was already sick, then the Wings played the Islanders

I am going to make this short and sweet because I am still trying to battle my way through the last stages of this head cold that started on Friday, and after watching the Islanders’ scrimmage against the Adirondack Wings Tuesday night I’m not feeling much better.

I hope that it was just jet lag and with a couple of days back home in their own beds the Wings will be ready to take on Carolina.

Don’t get me wrong, it was a successful road trip, but to end on that flat of a note was a little disheartening, especially because the Wings are neck and neck with the Kings for that eighth playoff spot right now.

Now after heading into Tuesday’s game with a great deal of confidence, I am feeling a little nervous with the worst team in the NHL coming into Hockeytown tonight, and I shouldn’t be that worried about a team blows as much as its name sake.

One thing I suggest is that the Wings put stick ‘em on their sticks so they can actually keep the puck on the tape. It has been simple this season, when the Wings are able to keep possession of the puck and move it up the ice, they are in good shape. When they commit silly turnovers and fail to clear the zone on defense, they struggle. I know it is basic hockey fundamentals, but the inconsistencies in both areas are what really have me feeling like a bi-polar hockey fan.

A win tonight and things around the Wingnut household will be a lot calmer. A loss and I may start scouting the top draft picks in the next draft. I don’t want to sound like I am giving up on the Wings, but you can’t come away without a couple of points against the worst team in the league during a playoff race, even with more than two months left in the season.

Well, I guess that was a little longer then I expected it to be, but very therapeutic. If you need to let off some steam about Tuesday or anything that has been grinding your gears this season, leave a comment. Like Dr. Frasier Crane…”I’m listening.
